This week off is definitely turning out to be the most fun I've had in quite a while! I went sailing yesterday. It was the first time I set foot on a sail boat and what a first experience it was! My friend Alison and some of her friends meet every Wednesday for a sail boat race around the islands just north of Boston and she invited me to come along this time.
The weather was perfect, although our captain seemed to think a little more wind might have been helpful to make us move faster... Sadly, we did not win the race. Of course, not knowing the first thing about sailing, I concentrated mostly on observing and staying out of everybody's way, which is relatively easy on a 40ft boat. For a good part of the race, we could see Boston in the distance. It has quite a pretty skyline when seen from the water. Big cites always look better from a distance.
We came back to shore just as it was starting to get dark. Everybody on the boat was really friendly and welcoming. They obviously don't live in Boston. What a difference going 20 miles north can make!! Now I understand why Alison chose to live up there.
