It was a long drive. I left at 4AM on Tuesday, drove all day, stopping only three times for maybe an hour to sleep at rest areas when I started feeling tired. I stopped in Little Rock, AR around 1AM and took a hotel room there. That was 1160 miles for just one day! I left again yesterday morning early and arrived at my building in Dallas at 1:30PM. Total mileage: 1480. I had driven from here to New York almost four years ago when I was touring with Quidam and I remembered the entire drive as being bleak and boring. It was early spring so everything looked dead. I also had 102 degrees fever and was half dead myself...
This time, it was nice and sunny and there were still a lot of colorful leaves left in the trees so the drive was actually quite pretty. I guess this trip proves to be a study in contrast... As much as I was happy to leave behind the nasty stuff that's happening on the east coast, I turned on the news when I got here and they were showing live images of a high speed police chase. A guy had stolen a lumber truck which somehow caught on fire and he was driving around for an hour and a half before he stopped and surrendered. During the whole thing he was losing pieces of wood, buckets of nails, burning truck parts, it was pretty messy and very dangerous for the other people on the road. And where was all that happening? Well in Dallas of course, where else?
